Gilbert Family Foundation Launches NF1 Brain Tumor Initiative

The Gilbert Family Foundation has recently funded several research laboratories as part of its newly launched Brain Tumor Initiative.

“We are grateful to the Gilbert Family Foundation for their support of our efforts to develop humanized models of NF1 malignant brain tumors”, says David H. Gutmann, MD, PhD, Director of the Washington University NF Center.

Using human induced pluripotent stem cells and genetically engineered mice generated in his laboratory, the Washington University team aims to develop new models of these high-grade gliomas in NF1 as an initial step towards creating authenticated platforms for future drug discovery and therapeutic testing.
