David H. Gutmann, MD, PhD, the Donald O. Schnuck Family Professor and Director of the Washington University Neurofibromatosis (NF) Center, was recently appointed to the Advisory Council for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The mission of NINDS is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease.
The NINDS Council has two general functions (1) to advise the Institute on policy and procedures affecting the extramural research programs and (2) to provide a second level of review for all grant and cooperative agreement applications considered by the Institute for funding. In addition to application review, the NINDS Director utilizes the expertise and experience of National Advisory Neurological Disorders and Stroke Council (NANDS) members for program planning, discuss new NINDS initiatives, review intramural research programs, and evaluate the objectives, priorities and accomplishments of the Institute’s extramural program.
We congratulate Dr. Gutmann on his selection to this important advisory board.
